The National Development Project (NDP) was established in 1997 to assist states with the development of professional associations for child care directors and to develop the capacity for providers to interact with one another on a state, regional, and national basis.
Assistance is available to state directors associations in the following areas:
- Startup funding and technical assistance to organize new associations in states where none currently exist
- Strategic planning, advocacy, and organizational development assistance to young associations or associations that are in need of reorganization
- Resources, information, policy analysis, and research assistance to associations that are well-developed and ready to influence the policy agenda in their local communities
- Mechanisms for local and state associations to communicate with one another to share best practices in the states
National Development Project expansion in 1999 included:
- Funding and organization of two new provider groups -- in Ohio and the District of Columbia -- into cohesive, active organizations.
- The Missouri Child Care and Education Association (MOCARE) implemented its strategic plan, thereby creativing new opportunities for provider networking and sending informational and call-to-action alerts to local providers. These initiatives are already demonstrating success with increased advocacy at a state level.
